o MOTION to establish a Resolution dynamic in nature that will request DDOT to perform a series of
comprehensive safety assessments in 8A and to install speed hump as necessary or other traffic calming
devices in specific known dangerous areas with the understanding that ANC 8A will monitor, review and
request additional action from time to time to under this Resolution to ensure the safety of residents and

Community Presentation:
Norton in Your Neighborhood: Federal Update
o SPEAKER: Hon. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton Provided updates on congressional initiatives
including getting DC statehood. The Congresswoman also discussed programs and outreach projects
available to the community and potential new commerce opportunities with the redevelopment of St.
Elizabeth campus.
Update from the Office of the Mayor on the District’s 2020 Budget Proposal
o SPEAKER: Timothy White, Executive Director, Office of East of the River Services Discussed current
status of DC budget and major initiatives including affordable housing and workforce housing fund.
Provided information on upcoming resource fairs in the community and opportunity for census jobs and
discussed streetlight initiatives with DDOT.

Office of Councilmember Tryon White: Councilmember White provided updates on Eagle Academy construction
and addressed residents’ concerns.
Office of the Mayor Muriel Bowser: Budget Updates Provided (See Timothy White’s remarks above
Commissioners Announcements Skipped for Time
Commission Announcement- Launch of ANC Committees- Commission announced launch of resident driven
sub-committees: ABRA, Economic Development, Public Safety Committee, Education, Community Outreach and
Transportation.
DPW Updates-Celeste Duffy provided background on role of DPW: responsible for gov’t core municipal services
(including: trash, recycling, street and alley cleaning, snow and ice removal, street sweeping, parking
enforcement and collection of food scraps for composting) that are seasonally based.
Community Concerns: Constituent request for street cleaning on 1200 block of V Street SE and several constituent
concerns regarding DDOT needed traffic signage neeed near and around MLK/GHR corridor to protect pedestrians,
bikers, other commuters. Cm. Jones noted recent service requests re: the same.
Public Announcements: The Commission announced receipt of MDP’s response to ANC 8A’s safety recommendations
and local happenings including Ward 8 scholarship opportunities via the Butch Hopkins Foundation (and other advance
education funding programs), vocational careers sponsored by Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative,
technological support help services and Ward 8 Senior and Development Corporation Community Forum meeting.
