Administrative Matters
The March meeting of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8A was called to order at 7:05 PM
Commissioners Thompson, Baker, Agyei, Prestwood, Jones and Clark were present at the time of role call. Cm.
Clark left at 8:40 following the Reunion Square vote.
The February 2020 meeting minutes were adopted as presented to the commission. Motion to approve was
moved by Cm. Clark and seconded Cm. Agyei. Motion passed unanimously.
The March meeting agenda was approved unanimously with changes.

Sgt. Marbell reported on crime statistics for PSA 607 indicating a slight decrease in violent crime and increase
in property crime. Sgt Willo reported on PSA 701 indicating an increase in violent and property crime. Officers
Robinson and Bennett representatives from 7D’s New Property Crime Unit introduce themselves to the
commission and the community. There are currently 15 members in the unit stationed in 7D. They can be

ANC 8A is hiring a part time Administrator to assist the work of the commission. To apply please visit

Community Presentations
SPEAKER: Tara Morrison, Superintendent, US National Parks Service -National Capital Parks-East
The Anacostia Park Management Plan was completed in 2017.

USPS is working to revitalise the section of park land between Pennsylvania Ave SE and the Frederick Douglass
Bridge. They are also looking to partner with the community to advance the work needed to be done inside
Anacostia Park. To get involved visit NPS.GOV/NACE At the Douglass National Historic Site there a lots of great

Cm. Agyei will be working with Superintendan Morrison on behalf of the Commission to address issues of illegal
dumping in 8A. Residents can call the US Park Police to report concerns about illegal dumping at 202-610-7500

SPEAKER: Dr. Melanie A. Adams, Director Anacostia Community Museum (ACM)
Invited residents to visit the museum. There will be lots of great events coming up in the spring and summer
including Twilight Tuesday where the museum is open until 8pm. ACM plans to work more closely with the
community particularly in education (K-12) and hosting community conversations.

1. Vote on nominations for ANC 8A Committees as presented to commission Moved by Cm. Baker and
seconded by Cm. Clark.
Motion passed 5-0-1 Cm Agyei Abstained
2. Vote to rescind Commission’s November 2019 Vote regarding ANC 8A Updates to Reunion Square
Development and CBA Recommendations - Motion move by Cm. Jones and seconded Cm. Prestwood
Motion passed 5-0-1 Cm. Clark abstained.
3. Vote on resolution in support of updated Reunion Square Development and CBA the motion was moved
by Cm. Jones and second Cm. Prestwood CM. CBA will be posted on ANC 8A’s website when finalised.
Motion passed 6-0-0
4. Vote to send a resolution to DDOT requesting conversion of selected streets in ANC 8A. The commission
is requesting the 2500 Block of High Street SE, the 2500 Block of West St SE, and the 1900 Block of Curtis
Court SE be considered for conversion from two way to one way streets and the 1200 block of W St SE
and the 1900- 2200 blocks of 13 St SE be considered for conversion from one way to two way streets.
The motion was moved by Cm.Jones and seconded by Cm. Thompson
Motion passed 5-0-0
5. Vote to endorse 8A03 community letter to DDOT requesting timely resolution of safety concerns at
19th and R St. SE Moved by Cm, Thompson seconded by Cm. Baker
Motion passed 5-0-0
6. Vote to send a resolution in Opposition to Proposed Cuts to Metrobus Routes and Service in Ward 8
Moved by Cm. Prestwood and seconded by Cm. Jones
Motion passed 4-0-1 Cm. Thompson abstained
7. Vote on resolution to support the 2020 Census. Motion was moved by Cm. Baker and Seconded by CM
Agyei.
Motion passed 5-0-0
