Virtual Meeting
The April meeting of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8A was called to order at 7:13pm. The
Commision met virtually via Zoom due to the declared health emergency caused by COVID-19. The
powerpoint presentation which accompanied this meeting can be found at
Commissioners Baker, Agyei, Jones, Prestwood and Thompson, were present at the time of roll call.
The April 2020 meeting agenda was approved unanimously as presented by voice vote.
The March 2020 meeting minutes were adopted unanimously as presented by voice vote.
Public Safety Update
District – Lt. Ashley Archer of MPD's 7th District joined the call and provided
updates to the community regarding the decrease in calls for services due to the current health

1. Vote to move June Meeting from Tuesday, June 2, 2020 to Tuesday, June 9, 2020 for Election Day.
The motion was moved by Prestwood and seconded by Jones. Roll call vote was taken. Motion passed
2. Vote to approval of Quarter 2 Treasury Report. The motion was moved by Jones and seconded by
Baker. Roll call vote was taken. Motion passed 5-0-0
Community Presentations
Speaker: Alexander Brown, Head of School, Lee Montessori School
Mr. Brown provided information about Lee Montessori School and its programs. Lee hopes to begin
operations in ANC 8A in Fall 2020 and committed to hosting open house soon. Additional information

Community Updates
Offices of the People's Council Erica Jones provided information updates on local utility and work that
the OPC have done from District Residents during the Covid-19 epidemic. Commissioners and residents
asked questions and received answers.
Office of the Mayor Muriel Bowser
Kornelius Anderson thanked Commissioners for providing information. Mentioned that there will be a
call on Friday April 10 at 4pm with Small Business Community Telephone Town Hall. Lastly, he reminded
folks to practice good hygiene and stay home if not essential.
Office of Councilmember Trayon White
Not in attendance.
Community Concerns
Questions were taken from Community and discussed among Commissioners.
Public Announcements
Kristina Noell (Anacostia BID) – Provided updates to the community regarding small business. On
Wednesdays at 2pm Bid and ACDE provides technical assistance for small businesses to apply for grants
via phone. At Maple View Flats , World Central Kitchen has been feeding seniors for last month, so that
they don’t have to leave home serving up to 1000 meals a day. Over 12,000 meals in March and April to
date.. To assist you can contact CM White’s Office. The Anacostia BID is fully operational, and the Clean
team is regularly beautifying the commercial corridor.
Commissioners “Call to Action” and Announcements
Commissioner Agyei – Provided a brief update on the Laundromat at 16th St SE and Good Hope Road
SE being requested as a nuisance property.
Commissioner Baker – Thanked neighbors for patronizing stores but caution to use social distancing.
Commissioner Thompson – Gave updates on Business CSA – fresh vegetables Welcher’s Sports Bar –
Founding Farmers – providing boxes of vegetables. Recommend a neighborhood Art Gallery “ The
Nicholson Project located at 2210 Nicholson St SE. and eminded neighbors to take advantage of
Anacostia Park for exercise.
Commissioner Jones – Thanked the Commissioner for their work, Anacostia Bid for their continuous
efforts along the corridor and Residents for staying at home.
Commissioner Prestwood –Encourage neighbors to support Martha’s table donations. M-F 11am-4pm
Sat 10-2pm will provide food to neighbors on Elvans Road SE.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:06pm. ANC 8A Next meeting will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2020 at 7:00pm.
